The Celebration of Pascha at St. Sava Parish in London, Ontario / Прослава Васкрса у парохији Светог Саве у Лондону (Онтарио)

During the days commemorating the suffering, burial, and glorious Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the faithful of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Parish in London gathered in their church, prayerfully participating in the sacred services of Holy Week and the Feast of Feasts—the Glorious Resurrection of Christ.

Our preparation for the Feast of Feasts began on Lazarus Saturday, when the Divine Liturgy was celebrated. That same evening, on the eve of Palm Sunday, the faithful gathered for the Vespers service followed by the traditional procession around the holy church. Carrying willow and palm branches, the children led the procession, joined by the rest of the faithful as they prayerfully walked around the church singing the festal hymn.

Following the service, a workshop for our youngest parishioners was held in the parish hall. Together with their religious education teacher, Milena, and with the help of teacher Marina, her daughter Ela, and many parents, the children continued their preparations for the feast through creative activities.

On Palm Sunday, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated, after which the faithful gathered for the traditional meal of fellowship prepared by the dedicated members of the Circle of Serbian Sisters.

Throughout Holy Week, all of the appointed services were celebrated, leading the faithful through Christ's Passion and His victory over death. On Holy Thursday morning, the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great was served, while in the evening the Matins service with the reading of the Twelve Passion Gospels was celebrated. On Great and Holy Friday, in an atmosphere of silence and deep reverence, the Royal Hours were served, followed by Vespers with the bringing out of the Holy Shroud (Plashchanitsa) and the moving hymn, "The Lament of the Mother of God." Later that evening, the Matins of Holy Saturday with the Lamentations and the procession around the church was served.

For the second consecutive year, a large number of faithful attended these sacred services, recognizing their beauty, the profound meaning of the prayers and hymns, the strength of praying together, and, above all, the opportunity for spiritual growth. These services offer a unique and precious opportunity to participate not only in prayer but also with our hearts, minds, and bodies in the life of our Lord—from the Mystical Supper, through the Cross and the Tomb, to the glory of the Resurrection.

On Holy Saturday morning, the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great was celebrated. Afterwards, thanks to the devoted efforts of our religious education teacher Milena and the generous support of our wonderful parents, a Paschal workshop for children was organized. The children dyed Easter eggs and then enjoyed a joyful Easter egg hunt in the church courtyard.

On the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ, the church was filled with a great number of faithful. Glory be to God! It was especially joyful to see so many young people, a beautiful sign of hope and living faith within our parish community. In his Paschal homily, Fr. Dusko Marković expressed his joy at seeing the church filled with people of goodwill, especially young people, who will one day lead and preserve this holy church. He also expressed gratitude to those who built our church and to everyone who has lovingly cared for it throughout the years.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a festive Paschal luncheon was prepared, once again lovingly organized by the sisters of the Circle of Serbian Sisters. The Paschal meal provided a wonderful opportunity to share the joy of Christ's Resurrection with those we love and with those alongside whom we worship God.

У данима страдања, погребења и славног Васкрсења Господа нашег Исуса Христа, верујући народ парохије Светог оца Саве у Лондону сабрао се у својој цркви, учествујући у спасоносним богослужењима Страсне седмице и празника над празницима – Светлог Васкрсења Христовог.

Увод у празник над празницима започео је на Лазареву суботу, када је служена Света Литургија. Исте вечери, уочи Цвети, служено је вечерње богослужење са свечаним опходом – литијом око светог храма. Деца, носећи палмове и врбове гранчице, предводила су литију, у којој су им се придружили и остали верници, појући тропар празника и молитвено ходећи око храма.

По завршетку богослужења, у црквеној сали одржана је радионица за најмлађе, током које су деца са вероучитељицом Миленом, уз помоћ учитељице Марине, њене ћерке Еле и осталих родитеља, на леп и стваралачки начин наставила припрему за празничне дане.

На Цвети је служена Света Литургија, а потом су се верници окупили за трпезом љубави, коју су припремиле вредне чланице Кола српских сестара.

Током Страсне седмице служена су сва прописана богослужења која верне воде путем Христовог страдања и Његове победе. На Велики четвртак ујутру служена је Литургија Светог Василија Великог, док је увече служено јутрење са читањем Дванаест страдалних јеванђеља. На Велики петак, у тишини и дубокој побожности, одслужени су Царски часови, а затим и вечерње богослужење са изношењем Плаштанице и појањем потресног „Плача Мајке Божије“. Потом је уследило јутрење Велике суботе са Статијама и опходом око цркве.

Већ другу годину заредом велики број верника долази на ова света богослужења, препознајући у њима њихову лепоту, дубину садржаја светих молитава и песама, снагу заједничке молитве и, што је најважније, духовно уздизање. То је јединствена и драгоцена прилика да не само молитвено, већ и срцем, умом и телом учествујемо у животу Господњем – од Тајне вечере, преко Крста и Гроба, до славе Васкрсења.

На Велику суботу ујутру служена је Литургија Светог Василија Великог, а након ње, уз несебично залагање вероучитељице Милене и подршку честитих родитеља, организована је васкршња радионица за децу. Деца су офарбала васкршња јаја, а потом је у црквеном дворишту одржана весела игра – потрага за јајима и слаткишима.

На сам дан Васкрсења Христовог храм је био посебно испуњен верним народом. Слава Богу! Посебно је било радосно видети велики број младих, што је знак наде и живе вере у нашој заједници. У празничној беседи, отац Душко Марковић изразио је радост што је црква испуњена људима добре воље, посебно младима, који ће једнога дана водити и чувати ову светињу. Изразио је захвалност онима који су саградили овај храм, као и свима који га годинама са љубављу одржавају.

Након Свете Литургије припремљен је свечани васкршњи ручак, који су и овога пута с љубављу приредиле сестре из Кола српских сестара. Васкршња трпеза била је изванредна прилика да на дан Васкрсења поделимо радост са онима које волимо и са онима са којима се Богу заједно молимо.

Христос васкрсе!
